Stroller Source In-Depth Review: Jeep Wrangler Unlimited g-edition stroller

For our very first Stroller Source In-Depth Review, I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to test-drive the Jeep Wrangler Limited g-edition stroller.  An important note about this stroller, and why I was so thrilled to use it, is that it is environmentally responsible- it uses PET fabric that utilizes water bottles recycled from 100% post-consumer waste.  As the resident “recycle nazi” of my household, I loved the g-edition stroller just for this!  But it has lots of other great features too- read on to learn more!

** Important Note: the Stroller Source Ratings are based on a 5-point scale as it relates to other strollers in its own category.  In other words, an umbrella stroller with small wheels will never compare to the super smooth ride of a jogger with large pneumatic wheels.  Our ratings compare the reviewed stroller to comparable strollers of its kind.

Ease of Assembly (1 = Hard, 5 = Very Easy)

Stroller Source Rating = 5

The Jeep Wrangler g-edition was simple to put together.  In addition to attaching the wheels; the canopy, parent cup holder, and side cargo bags had to be attached and it couldn’t have been easier.  The owner’s manual was clear and easy to understand.

Quality (1 = Poor, 5 = Excellent)

Stroller Source Rating =  5

I felt the quality of the g-edition to be excellent!  The frame is very sturdy and substantial for an umbrella stroller, the fabric is durable and easy to clean, and the overall design and features were well thought-out and helpful to both the caregiver and child.

Size (1 = Bulky, 5 = Compact)

Stroller Source Rating = 4

The g-edition folds up very compactly and fits easily into the back of my small SUV, and it even fits nicely into the front passenger seat of my car when the back was occupied (by our dog, Charlie!).  The frame is a little bit bulkier than other umbrella strollers, and as a result the g-edition feels a bit more substantial than other umbrella strollers out there.

Weight (1 = Heavy, 5 = Lightweight)

Stroller Source Rating = 4

Weighing in at 15.5 pounds, the g-edition is average weight for an umbrella stroller, and it is great for quick trips, public transportation and air travel.  For me, it was great to stash in my car for use on day trips to the museum and also for running quick errands around our neighborhood.

Storage (1 = Limited, 5 = Lots of storage)

Stroller Source Rating = 5

When it comes to storage, the g-edition goes above and beyond the standard cargo basket!  It has a pocket on the exterior of the canopy (super convenient for mom) two detachable cargo pockets that hang on either side of the stroller, and one mesh pocket on each side of the seat interior.  When my 2 year-old son first saw this stroller, he started filling all the pockets with his trains and trucks!  One note about the cargo basket: there are cross bars at the bottom of the basket space which may be slightly prohibitive… but I think the multiple additional storage options more than make up for it.

Value (1 = Poor Value, 5 = Excellent Value)

Stroller Source Rating = 5

With an MSRP of $139.99, I think the g-edition is an excellent value for the money.  In addition to being great quality, it has plenty of added features & accessories for convenience.  Other umbrella strollers with comparable features cost $30-50 more.  Last, the g-edition has a weight capacity of 50 lbs, which is 10 lbs more then most other umbrella strollers, so you can use it for a longer amount of time with an older child.

Ease of folding/unfolding (1 = Difficult, 5 = Very Easy)

Stroller Source Rating = 4

The g-edition has a 3-step fold; first you pull a little tab with your foot to unlock the frame, then you collapse it down, and finally you manually lock it closed with a built-in clip.  To open, you simply undo the clip, unfold the stroller, and lock the frame in place by stepping down on the folding bar in the back of the stroller.  There is nothing complicated or difficult about folding or unfolding the g-edition, but there are other models that are slightly less involved.

Ride (1 = Bumpy, 5 = Smooth)

Stroller Source Rating = 4

For an umbrella stroller with smaller sized, EVA foam wheels, the g-edition stroller rides nicely.  The suspension in the front and rear wheels was helpful for absorbing the little bumps and cracks I encountered in urban sidewalks.

Maneuverability/Steering (1 = Difficult, 5 = Very Easy)

Stroller Source Rating = 3.5

Overall, the g-edition maneuvered nicely.  The only time I encountered any difficulty was when I tried pushing the stroller with one hand, because I had to hold my older child’s hand to cross the street.  Also, my husband, who is 6’0 tall, sometimes kicked the back of the stroller when he pushed it.

Stylish (1 = Unattractive, 5 = Very Attractive)

Stroller Source Rating = 4

I will admit: I am one of those people who always buys a stroller in basic black, so I was a little skeptical about pushing around a lime green stroller!  But my 2 year-old son loved it as soon as it came out of the box (his favorite color is- can you guess?  GREEN) and soon I liked it too.  Note: the g-edition is available in green only.  I could personally do with smaller/less logos, but overall it is a nice-looking stroller, and who knows- the next stroller I buy may be green!

Comfort (1 = Uncomfortable/Cramped, 5 = Very Comfortable)

Stroller Source Rating = 4

My 2 year-old and my 10 month-old both found the g-edition to be comfortable.  The seat was plenty wide, deep and tall for each of them.  One super cool feature is that the fabric interior of the seat rolls up to expose a mesh backing, which is great for keeping your little one cool on those hot days!

Accessories and Options (1 = Lack of Accessories, 5 = Lots of Accessory Options)

Stroller Source Rating = 5

Umbrella strollers are usually a bit limited in the accessory department in order to keep the stroller compact & lightweight, but the g-edition offered pretty much everything you could hope for in an umbrella stroller.  In addition to the crazy amount of storage pockets & basket, the g-edition includes a removable parent cup holder and a nylon travel bag for your stroller.  Last, the g-edition has a great, extra-large canopy.

OVERALL STROLLER SOURCE RATING = 4.375

Top Pros: Great value, environmentally-friendly produced, tons of storage, higher weight capacity for longer use, large canopy, great included accessories (parent cup holder, travel bag)

Top Cons: Slightly bulky for an umbrella stroller, one color option, taller parents may kick the back of the stroller while pushing
